Oʻahu (pronounced "oˈʔɐhu") or Oahu /oʊˈɑːhuː/, renowned as "The Gathering Place", is the third biggest of the Hawaiian islands and the most populous of the islands in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The state capital, Honolulu, is on Oʻahu's southeast seaboard area. encompassing little close-in offshore isles such as Ford Island and the islands in Kaneohe embayment and off the eastern (windward) seaboard area, it has a total land area of 596.7 rectangle miles (1,545.4 km2), making it the 20th biggest island in the joined States.
